Rodman made himself eligible for the 1986 NBA draft and he was drafted by the Detroit Pistons as the 3rd pick in the second round (27th overall), joining the rough and tumble team of coach Chuck Daly that was called "Bad Boys" for their old-school rough-edged approach to basketball. The squad featured Isiah Thomas and Joe Dumars at the guard positions, Adrian Dantley and Sidney Green at forward, and center Bill Laimbeer. Some of the brave and bold bench players included sixth man Vinnie Johnson and the backup forwards Rick Mahorn and John Salley. Rodman found a new home with this cast of characters and quickly adapted this new role...and surely came one of the elite "Bad Boys" of Detroit! He provided 6.5 points, 4.7 rebounds and some tough defense in 15.0 minutes of playing time, on average, per game.
